Becoming An Officer

The Erlanger Police Department is always accepting resumes. When an opening occurs those people who have submitted resumes are notified of the dates and times of the testing.

Qualified applicants must be 21 years old, have a High School Diploma or equivalent, and at time of hire reside in Kentucky. Applicants must pass the following criteria to be hired by the Erlanger Police Department:

    Written Test
    Oral Interviews
    Physical Agility
    Psychological Test
    Background Investigation
    Polygraph

The new recruit then attends the Department of Criminal Justice Training Police Academy in Richmond, KY for 18 weeks. DOCJT Incoming Recruit Information. Upon successful completion the officer then is assigned to a Field Training Officer for a minimum 17 weeks. This also includes an orientation period prior to field work in which the recruit becomes familiar with the local government, ordinances, and policies. Police Field Training Officers
