Explorers
The Erlanger Fire/EMS Department sponsors an Explorer post that
is comprised of young persons between the ages of fourteen and
eighteen. Teenagers who volunteer as an Explorer get the training
and experience that real firefighters do and can get a great jump
on a career in the fire service through the Explorer Program.
The Erlanger Fire Explorers are directed by Firefighter Justin
Brinkman; however, the Explorers themselves actually do most of
the work of running the Explorer Post. This responsibility teaches
the Explorers the duties of officers in the fire service. While
Terry is always willing to help, the Explorers gain added responsibility
by running their own show.
The Explorers train every Monday afternoon at 3:30 at Erlanger
Station 1. Their training varies from week to week, but it is always
designed to prepare them for their future transition to firefighters.
Topics include Firefighter Safety, First Aid, Fire Control, Search
and Rescue, Hose Handling, and much more.
While learning valuable skills that will be used in future careers,
Explorers also gain the opportunity to meet new and interesting
people and become close friends. Many of the current Explorers
thoroughly enjoy coming up to the fire station to hang out with
some friends while at the same time learning methods that they
may one day use to save a life.
The Explorer Post is open to all interested teenagers. Simply call
the Erlanger Fire/EMS or stop by and pick up an application at
